U.S. Ambassador Kenney (center), U.S. Department of Energy official Thomas Cutler (to the Ambassador’s left), and Project Director Michael Pitlock (left, middle row ) join students in a photo during a break at the gathering in Taguig City on September 15 of USAID and its Philippine partners in pro-environment programs. The students gave a dance number during the gathering that celebrated USAID and its partners’ achievements in promoting clean environment and sustainable energy in the country. USAID/Philippines manages an energy program funded at $2-3 million annually. The program supports conflict mitigation, economic growth, clean energy, and climate change objectives. To continue their cooperation in environment and energy sectors, the two governments last year signed an agreement providing the Philippines nearly $73 million in grant for programs that involve, among other areas, the mitigation of climate change and 100% electrification of the Philippines.
