Sailors of the USS George Washington, guided by a staff member of The Capas National Shrine, spread out around the Shrine’s grounds to plant trees. The Shrine honors thousands of American and Filipino prisoners of war who suffered or perished along the 60-mile forced march from the battle grounds of Bata’an to the prison camps in Tarlac during World War II. During the USS George Washington’s goodwill visit from August 11-14, its crew members participated in various community development and outreach activities in Metro Manila’s cities of Taguig, Navotas, Quezon, Manila, and Marikina.
