Ambassador Kenney Meets Young Muslim Leaders and Mindanao-Based Bloggers in Visit To Davao City July 17-18

In her remarks, the Ambassador exhorted the alumni of the USAID-supported internship program to persevere in their commitment to helping bring peace and development in Mindanao. During the same visit to Davao City on July 17-18, the Ambassador visited a local branch of the U.S.-based call center and met with members of the Mindanao Bloggers Society.

The CIPYML is a partnership among the Philippine House of Representative, USAID, Mindanao State University and the University of the Philippines designed to provide hands-on experience in legislation and policy formulation to recent graduates from colleges in universities in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao. The program has provided internship experience to 163 young Muslim leaders since it began in 2002.

The business process outsourcing company started in Rochester, New York in 1986, and now employs more than 24,000 professionals in the U.S., Philippines, India and two other countries. The company employs 7,523 Filipinos in its branches in Makati, Clark, and Davao City.

Founded by Sun-Star Davao columnist Oliver Robillo (third, left), the two-year old society is committed to bringing out the true picture of Mindanao through its members’ blogs. In their roundtable discussion on Mindanao, the Ambassador noted U.S. Government activities and programs to help achieve peace and development in the southern Philippine region.
