U.S. Donates Medical Equipment to Filipino Veterans and their Families

June 30, 2009

Today, United States Ambassador Kristie Kenney and representatives of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs donated a new $800,000 CT-Scan machine to the Philippine Government’s Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City.  The donation is one in a series of medical equipment donations since 2003 that the U.S. Government has provided to the Filipino veteran community and their families.

“We are so pleased to help out Filipino veterans of all ages and their families with this donation,” said Ambassador Kenney.  “This is a great program in which the U.S. Government partners with the Veterans Memorial Medical Center to further assist our Filipino veterans.  It is one more way we honor the bravery and heroism of all Filipino veterans who have put their country ahead of themselves and fought to preserve our freedom.”

The CT-Scan machine is the latest donation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center.  Since 2003, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs has donated $5.5 million worth of new medical equipment and facilities upgrades to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center.

In addition, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs already has announced the purchase of a brand new $1million MRI machine to be donated next year.

The U.S. Government works together with the Veterans Memorial Medical Center’s leadership to determine which equipment would be most beneficial and meet the needs of the veterans and their family members.  The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs oversees the purchase, installation, and maintenance of all equipment donated through the program.
