Ambassador Kenney Celebrates Ocean Month with Children at Manila’s Ocean Park

As part of the U.S. government’s partnership with the Philippine government and nongovernmental organizations in safeguarding Philippine environment and natural resources, the Ambassador visited the Manila Ocean Park on May 21 to read to children a new USAID-produced “Eco Defenders” storybook on marine environment and to turnover to the park administration copies of the new book and a short film of tips to save energy and the environment.

USAID’s Sustainable Energy Development Program (SEDP) produced the book as part of its pro-environment thrust and to celebrate the second anniversary of the Read Along Program of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. The newspaper is a partner of the SDEP in the promotion of biofuels and alternative energy.
Children eagerly watch as Ambassador Kenney tries nonverbal communication with a kink, which stuck its blue tongue at the Ambassador earlier. The U.S. Ambassador visited the Manila Ocean Park on May 21 to commemorate the Philippines’ 10th Ocean Month and to donate copies of a USAID-produced children storybook on environment protection and a 60-second cinema ad that highlight tips on saving the environment and energy sources.
Ambassador Kenney shows children how harmless a pet a foreign lizard is during a visit to the Manila Ocean Park on May 22 in celebration of the Philippines’ Ocean Month. Ambassador Kenney and science television show host Kim Atienza read to the children a new children storybook on protecting the environment, showed them several uncommon but attractive pets, and swam with the sea creatures in the park’s tank to greet children and other guests a happy Month of the Ocean.
