HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS AND U.S. EMBASSY PARTNER FOR EXHIBITION GAME FOR TAGUIG RESIDENTS
The Harlem Globetrotters, world-renowned travelling ambassadors for basketball, will treat selected communities in Taguig City to exhibition games when they visit the Philippines May 21-26 as part of their Asian tour.
The exhibition games in Taguig City, part of the Globetrotters charity outreach in coordination with the U.S. Embassy Manila, will be held on Friday, May 22 for audiences from the Maharlika and Signal Villages as well as nearby barangays.
The U.S. Embassy, in partnership with the Philippine Basketball Association, has held a series of youth basketball outreach programs for local communities that do not have access to such programs. The Philippine sports development at the grassroots level helps children learn the importance of hard work to achieve their goals as well as teamwork.
On Sunday, May 24, Ambassador Kenney will bring children from several local charitable institutions to the Globetrotters’ show at the Araneta Coliseum as part of the Ambassador’s initiative to promote sports among the youth.
The Globetrotters will play against the Washington Generals at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and on Monday, May 25 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the shows at the Araneta Coliseum are available at designated outlets.
The team’s visit to Manila, dubbed “The Harlem Globetrotters Live in Manila” is under the auspices of the Philippines Max Entertainment and Solar Entertainment promotions program. Sponsors are Dusit Hotel, Pioneer Insurance and Sun Cellular.
