Ambassador Kenney Visits U.S.-assisted Projects in Palawan

Famous worldwide for its natural beauty and bountiful natural resources, Palawan is a site of several U.S. government-assisted projects focusing on environmental protection.

In the background is the SBU building, which is 70 percent complete, and will be up and running by the end of the year as the headquarters of the local PNP Maritime Group. In addition to contributing funds for the building’s construction and providing maritime law enforcement training to the local Maritime Group personnel, the U.S. government will donate four modern patrol boats for the SBU’s operation.
Pickled seaweed attractively packed in bottles fascinates Ambassador Kenney during a visit to a cooperative center of Palawan women fisherfolk during a visit to Puerto Princesa City on April 24. Assisted with funds from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and helped by U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers, the cooperative processes locally grown seaweed into pickles and noodles.
Ambassador Kenney tries her hand at mixing ingredients of seaweed-based noodles at a women fisherfolk cooperative in Puerto Princesa City. The cooperative is assisted by USAID, U.S. Peace Corps Volunteers, and supported by the office of the city’s agriculturist.
