Ambassador Kenney’s Kicks Off Earth Day Celebrations Earlier with Environment Events in Baguio

U.S. Ambassador Kristie Kenney and Baguio City Mayor Reinaldo A. Bautista Jr. flip the switches that turn on a symbolic solar powered lamp post at Burnham Park during an April 15 ceremony in Baguio City. In the pre-Earth Day event, Ambassador Kenney, Mayor Bautista and representatives of national government agencies, private business and a nongovernment organization signed a memorandum of understanding for a private-public sector partnership to install solar electrified lamp posts around the Burnham Park lake and promote the use of clean and renewable energy in Baguio City and surrounding communities.

During the interview, the Ambassador discussed the importance of protecting environment, one of the reasons for her visit to the Philippine summer capital. She also noted her participation in the launching of a private-public partnership project to install solar-powered electric lamp posts around the Burnham Park lake, and her attendance at the Supreme Court-led multisectoral forum on the application of laws and prosecution of cases related to the environment.
Filipino artist Benedicto Cabrera, popularly known as Ben Cab, guides Ambassador Kristie Kenney in viewing the artist’s collection of contemporary Filipino art and indigenous artifacts of the Cordilleras in the new Ben Cab Museum in Baguio during the Ambassador’s visit to the Philippines’ summer capital on April 15-16. The museum is committed to bringing arts closer to the people, the preservation of the culture and traditions of the Cordilleras, and environmental conservation.
An employee of Sitel shows Ambassador Kristie Kenney how to operate a workstation in the call center facility in Baguio City. With its main office in Tennessee, Sitel’s Baguio site employs close to 3,000 or a little more than a third of the total 11,000 it employs in all of its six sites in the Philippines.
