Ambassador Kenney Renews Strong Partnership and Friendship in Iloilo City

Ambassador Kristie Kenney greets local Philippine Red Cross volunteers in Iloilo City who came out to welcome her. The U.S. Government was the first international donor in the immediate aftermath of the devastating Typhoon Frank in June 2008. The Ambassador visited Pavia where she heard from local officials and Red Cross beneficiaries about the recovery efforts.
During her trip to Iloilo, Ambassador Kenney visited Jaro National High School to meet with the teachers and students. She also observed Peace Corps Volunteer Jason Robinson teaching an English lesson at the school. Thirteen Peace Corps volunteers work in the Panay region in the areas of education, youth development and environmental conservation and protection.
Ambassador Kenney participates in a English-language classroom activity along with students of Jaro National High School. During her trip to Iloilo, Ambassador also visited Teletech, a growing U.S. business outsource processing company.
Mr. Rodolfo Lataquin, President of the 6th Military District World War II Veterans Association (Panay, Romblon and Guimaras areas) describes one of the World War II photos on display at SM City Mall in Iloilo to Ambassador Kenney who toured the exhibit on March 23. The World War II photo exhibit commemorates and recognizes the heroism and patriotism of the WWII Ilonggo veterans and includes historical photos taken during the war era for the young generation to learn what Iloilo looked like during WWII.
