Ambassador Kenney Visits Baguio’s Panagbenga Flower Festival, Meets Veterans and PMA Cadets, and Joins Peace Corps Volunteers in a Soccer Drill

The separate performances of the youth groups Eco Defenders and CAYA-Babe showcased Baguio youth's concern for energy conservation and environmental protection, and the call to “bring back the scent of pines” to Baguio and Benguet.
Filipino World War II veterans greet Ambassador Kristie Kenney during her visit to the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) in Baguio City on February 27. The Ambassador extended to the PVAO staff the U.S. Government’s appreciation for their help in reaching out to the veterans in the northern Philippines. In the meeting with the veterans, the Ambassador reiterated the U.S. Government’s recognition of their service to the defense of democracy and assured them of the Embassy’s assistance in obtaining their new lump sum benefits.
Vice Admiral Leonardo C. Calderon Jr., Superintendent of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), presents Ambassador Kenney a statuette of a PMA cadet during the Ambassador’s call on the Vice Admiral on February 27. In a brief address to the cadets, the Ambassador shared leadership lessons drawn from the U.S. election and the transition to the Administration of President Barack Obama.
Ambassador Kenney joins U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer Travis Shultz (left) in a brief drill with members of an elementary soccer team at Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Benguet. The Ambassador visit the University on February 28 to thank its officials and staff for their support for the Peace Corps Volunteer Shultz, who teaches tertiary English at the University, is an active member of the University’s football (soccer) club, and coached the elementary soccer team to a regional championship and a spot in the national championship games.
