U.S. Navy Seventh Fleet Band to Give Free Concerts for Metro Manila Residents
The U.S. Navy Seventh Fleet Band will treat Metro Manila residents to free public concerts featuring contemporary and brass band music as well as a show band performance this week. The Band is performing in Metro Manila as part of the routine port call and goodwill visit of the USS Blue Ridge, the flagship of the U.S. Seventh Fleet.
The Far East Edition Rock Band, which is the Seventh Fleet Band’s contemporary music ensemble, will kick off the free concert series with a performance at the Alabang Town Center’s Activity Center on Friday, February 20. Beginning at 6 p.m., the group will render pop, rock, R & B, country, and rock and roll numbers.
Robinson’s Galleria on EDSA, Quezon City, will host the band’s free concert on Saturday, February 21. The U.S. Seventh Fleet Brass Band will march and play throughout the mall beginning at 4:30 p.m. Known for its performances of contemporary New Orleans style of music, the brass band’s sousaphone bass lines and funky street beats recreate the sounds of New Orleans, and render, with a modern touch, the traditional American Dixieland and brassy arrangements of popular music.
At 5 p.m. Robinson Galleria-EDSA’s Activity Center will rock with the Fleet’s Rock Band, bringing to north Metro Manila residents the diverse range of contemporary sounds and energetic performance that the audience at the Alabang mall enjoyed the previous afternoon.
The free concert series will culminate on Sunday, February 22, when the Seventh Fleet Band’s 20-piece Far East Edition brings to SM City North EDSA’s Events Center a show band performance that has entertained thousands of audiences throughout the Western Pacific. The Far East Edition performs a variety of styles, ranging from traditional to contemporary big band, jazz, Latin and popular music of today. Children from the Gawad Kalinga Laura Village in Quezon City will be the band’s special guests at the SM City concert.
