Americans and Filipinos Honor Defenders of Freedom and Democracy at Veterans Day Ceremony in Manila

Ambassador Kenney and a Filipino veteran take a self-portrait during a break at the November 11 Veterans Day ceremony at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial in Taguig City. The ceremony honored the services and sacrifices of American and Filipino veterans in defending democracy and freedom worldwide. Ambassador Kenney and Philippine Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita led the ceremony, which was attended by American and Filipino veterans and their families, members of the American community, representatives of the diplomatic corps and Philippine government and military officials.

The annual event, organized by the U.S. Embassy in Manila, brings together the American and Filipino community in honoring the sacrifices of American and Filipino veterans in defending democracy and freedom.

U.S. and Philippine honor guards bearing the American and Philippine flags march to the portal of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial during the November 11 Veterans Day ceremony organized by the U.S. Embassy. Located in Metro Manila, the cemetery is the largest resting place in the Pacific of U.S. soldiers killed during World War II.
