A senior high school student of the Central Philippine University in Iloilo smiles as he casts his ballot during the mock U.S. presidential election that his class conducted on October 24. As part of the U.S. Embassy program to explain U.S. elections to other nations, the Embassy invited high school classes in Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Cotabato, Davao and Zamboanga to hold the mock elections. The Embassy gave a suggested lesson plan on U.S. elections, background papers on the U.S. election process, biographies of the leading U.S. presidential and vice presidential candidates, and sample ballots. In Cagayan de Oro, some 150 teachers attending a seminar at the Xavier University also participated in the mock polls.
