Deputy Chief of Mission Paul Jones Represents the U.S. Government at Ceremony Commemorating 64th Anniversary of Gen. MacArthur’s Landing in Leyte

U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Paul Jones (right), Australian Embassy Defense Attaché Capt. The ceremony commemorated the 64th anniversary of U.S. Army General Douglas MacArthur’s landing in Palo, Leyte in 1944 to lead the U.S. and Allied Forces in reclaiming the Philippines from the Japanese Imperial Army during the World War II. “The U.S. and the Philippines stood together in that fight and we continue to be partners today. And like many years ago, we remain ready to sacrifice for the preservation of Filipino freedom and security.” Mr. Jones said during his remarks at the event.
Mr. Jones lays a wreath at the MacArthur Landing Memorial on the beach of Palo, Leyte, where U.S. Gen. Arthur MacArthur, leading the Allied troops, landed on October 20, 1944. Mr. Jones said in his remarks: “Today we again renew that vow to stand together with all peace-loving people and fight for that most basic of human rights – to live in freedom and tranquility.”

Mr. Jones represented the U.S. government during the commemoration on October 20 of the 64th anniversary Gen. MacArthur’s landing on the Philippine beach to lead the Allied forces in recovering the country from Japanese Imperial Army.
During an interview on radio station DYVL in Leyte’s capital, Tacloban City, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Paul Jones reveals to news program anchor Neil Glova (left) that it is his first time to visit the province. “I’m excited to be here and see first-hand this very historic place that played such an important part in both our countries’ history.” In the interview, Mr. Jones also discussed U.S. government-assisted projects in Eastern Visayas.
