Ambassador Kenney Pays Tribute to Thomasites and Ninoy Aquino

On August 21, 2008 the City of Manila hosted a wreath-laying ceremony on the grave marker of the American Teachers Plot in commemoration of the Thomasites, a group of American teachers who arrived in the Philippines in 1901 and established the modern free Philippine public education system; introduced English as the medium of instruction; and fostered democracy and good citizenship.
