U.S. Builds New Schools in Mindanao and Distributes Education Materials in Partnership with the Brigada Eskwela Program

USAID’s Education Quality and Access for Learning and Livelihood Skills (EQuALLS2) Project and Petron Foundation will co-finance the construction of 120 classrooms and rehabilitate 480 classrooms in the next four years to help alleviate classroom shortages and improve access to basic education in conflict-affected areas of Mindanao.
Jon Lindborg, USAID Mission Director in the Philippines, greets a student in Malapatan Central Elementary School in Sarangani Province whose classroom received story and spelling books from USAID’ s Education Quality and Access for Learning and Livelihood Skills (EQuALLS2) Project. USAID will provide new books to 93 schools, during Brigada Eskwela week. By 2011, USAID commits to set-up reading corners for every grade level in all 729 public elementary schools assisted by its cornerstone education project that operates in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and Regions 9 and 12.
