Olongapo Children Visit USS Buffalo

Commander Scott W. The children are orphan wards of the city -run Olongapo Center for Assistance, Rehabilitation and Empowerment (OCARE) and Social Development Center (SDC). USS Buffalo’s Commanding Officer, Cdr Pappano also presented to officials of the SDC first aid and personal hygiene supplies donated by the American people through Project Handclasp, while the submarine’s crew did painting work at Olongapo’s Kalalake Elementary School as part of their community outreach project. The two dozen wards of Olongapo’s city government had a tour of the 360-foot, 6,900-ton, fast-attack submarine on June 5 at Subic’ Alava Pier. During the submarine’s goodwill visit, the Buffalo’s Commanding Officer, Cdr. Scott W. Pappano presented donated a pallet of first aid and hygiene supplies to the Olongapo Center for Assistance, Rehabilitation and Empowerment (OCARE) and the city’s Social Development Center (SDC).

As part of the Buffalo’s goodwill visit, the submarine hosted on June 5 a half-day tour for two dozen wards of Olongapo City, presented boxes of goods donated a city’s orphanage for girls, and did painting and repair work on the city’s Kalalake Elementary School.

USS Buffalo, a Los Angeles-class, nuclear-powered fast attack submarine, arrived June 3 on a goodwill visit to the Philippines. The 360-foot, 6,900-ton submarine also gave a tour of the ship to two dozen young wards of the Olongapo’s city government, and did painting work on the city’s Kalalake Elementary School.
