Ambassador Kenney Visits U.S. Business Investments in Batangas Province

Ambassador Kenney (left) is briefed on the operations of the Mak-Ban Geothermal Power Plant in Batangas, which is operated by the American company Chevron, the world’s largest producer of geothermal energy. Chevron Geothermal Philippines President and General Manager Antonio F. Yee accompanied the Ambassador in a tour of the facility. During the February 22 trip to the Southern Luzon province, the Ambassador also visited the manufacturing facility of the Illinois-based Littlelfuse Company, and signed a grant agreement with the Visayan Forum Foundation to assist the NGO’s anti-human trafficking operations in the ports of Batangas, Manila, Davao, Sorsogon and Zamboanga. Chevron’s geothermal power plant in Mak-Ban (above) and in Tiwi, in Albay Province, supplies seven percent of the total power demand in the entire Luzon region. Chevron’s geothermal plants employs 1,644 people. All together, Chevron’s four business companies in the country -- Chevron Malampaya LLC, Chevron Geothermal Philippines, Chevron Philippines Inc, and Chevron Holdings Inc. -- employ more than 21,000 people.
Batangas Province Governor Vilma Santos-Recto (right) warmly welcomes Ambassador Kenney during her courtesy call on February 22. During her trip to the Southern Luzon province, the Ambassador also visited the facilities of American companies Chevron Geothermal Philippines and Littlelfuse Company, and signed a grant agreement with the Visayan Forum Foundation to assist them in their efforts to help promote awareness about human trafficking and to provide assistance to those victims of human trafficking.
Ambassador Kenney observes the quality control staff of Littlelfuse Company in Batangas inspect part of the 20 to 25 million fuses that the Illinois-based company produces in its facility in Batangas every week. The fuses are used in virtually every product that uses critical energy, including automobiles, computers, consumer electronics, handheld devices, industrial equipment and telecom/datacom circuits. The company has an annual sale of $500 million and employs more than a 1,000 workers in its Batangas plant.
