U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Paul W. Jones Meets Mindanao Youth Leaders, Visits River Conservation Project and a Halfway House for Human Trafficking Victims During a Visit to Davao

Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Paul W. Jones (center) joins the alumni of the Youth Leadership Program-Philippines (YLPP) on October 24 in Davao City. Nearly 100 young Mindanao leaders have graduated from YLPP's one-month program in the U.S. YLPP is funded by the U.S. State Department and implemented through a partnership between the Northern Illinois University and Cagayan de Oro City's Capitol University.
Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Paul W. Jones (right) plants a Malibago tree near the Davao River during his visit on October 25 to the US-assisted Davao River Conservation Project. The riverside barangay is among the beneficiaries of the Tin-Aw (Timely Intervention and Natural Approaches to Watershed Management) Project that promotes improving the environmental quality of the Davao River Watershed while enhancing the economic well-being of residents living in the area.
Arhtur Necessito (right), regional coordinator for Mindanao of the Visayan Forum Foundation (VFF), welcomes U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Paul W. Jones (second, right) at the VFF halfway house at the Sasa Port in Davao. The port is considered one of the major transit points for human traffickers in the country. To combat this problem, VFF was established in 1991. VFF is one of the beneficiaries of the more than $4.4 million pesos in U.S. assistance for their efforts against trafficking in persons.
U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Paul Jones joins Davao Oriental Gov. Corazon Malanyaon, and Atty. Domingo Duerme, President of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cutting the ceremonial ribbon to open the Davao Trade Expo (DATE) 2007 at the NCCC Mall of Davao. DATE is one of Mindanao's premier trade fairs. It has helped showcase Davao's agriculture and non-food products, while encouraging more investments in the Southern Mindanao region. Representatives of fifteen major American companies participated in the event.
