Ambassador Kenney and Science Students Visit Ship that Carried Joint US-Philippine Team that Explored Celebes Sea

The ship, which explored the Celebes Sea for data that will be contributed to world's knowledge on deep-sea regions of the world, invited students from the Malaya Science High School for a tour of the ship and a briefing on the ship's research mission as part of the Inner Space Speciation Project (ISSP). ISSP is led by the U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Geographic Society. With the Ambassador and the students are NAMRIA Administrator Diony Ventura (right); undersea exploration technician Joe Caba (in white shirt behind the Ambassador) and Dr. Larry Madin of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (back row in maroon shirt).
A member of the U.S. scientific team helps direct the unloading of a crate of research equipment and materials from the BRPH Presbitero at the docks of Manila's Pier 13 on October 16. Composed of U.S. and Philippine marine and oceanographic scientists, the team explored the Celebes Sea and will compare its findings there with data from other deep-sea regions of the world. The U.S. National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Geographic Society provided funding assistance for the research.
