Ambassador Kenney Visits Ilocos Norte: U.S. Donates Computers to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and Local Schools

The donation is part of an ongoing U.S. assistance program, the Millennium Challenge Account-Philippine Threshold Program (MCA-PTP.) The MCA-PTP is a $21-million dollar, two-year program in partnership with the Philippine Government. It seeks to improve the customer service side of revenue administration and to work to reduce corruption.

Ambassador Kenney presented the students with a computer during her visit to the school on September 20. "America has a strong commitment to education," the Ambassador told the students, and explained that computers are the "most powerful education tool you can find."
Ambassador Kristie Kenney greets students who welcomed her to Luzong Elementary School in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte on September 21. In a ceremony at the school, the Ambassador presented computers donated by the U.S. government to eight elementary schools in the area. "America has always encouraged education," the Ambassador told the students. "My mother and my lola were teachers so I have great respect for education and for the teaching profession."

Calventas and Constantino were among the "bolomen" and local guerillas that helped unload weapons, ammunitions and provisions from U.S. submarines, including the USS STINGRAY, during the Philippine insurgency against the Japanese occupation in WWII.
