U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte Turns Over School Supplies to Manila High School Students

On behalf of the U.S. Navy, former U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines John D. Negroponte, who is currently the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, turned over to Manila High School equipment and supplies to help modernize their school. The donation includes more than 1,500 books, science lab equipment, tables, and chairs. These items were sent to the Philippines by U.S. Navy sailors and their families as a gift to highlight the continued friendship between our two nations. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John D. Negroponte greets a student at Manila High School, which he visited to turn over a donation of 1,500 books, science lab equipment, tables, and chairs. The school has a long history of friendship with the United States; among its first teachers were Americans known as the "Thomasites." In February 2007, U.S. Navy sailors from the USS Blue Ridge cleaned and created new classrooms after damage from typhoons.

On behalf of the U.S. Navy, Deputy Secretary Negroponte turned over to the school equipment and supplies including more than 1,500 books, science lab equipment, tables, and chairs. These items were sent to the Philippines by U.S. Navy sailors and their families as a gift to highlight the continued friendship between our two nations.
