U.S. Embassy Celebrates Independence Day and Philippine-American Friendship Day

Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo and Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney enter the U.S. Embassy's Charles Parsons Ballroom to officially kick off the Embassy's 4th of July and Philippine-American Friendship Day celebration. Nearly 1,000 guests attended the annual event hosted.

The night's festivities included live music from the U.S. Marine Corps Party Band; the American and Philippine national anthems performed by talented Filipina singer Sarah Geronimo; and a spectacular fireworks show over Manila Bay.

Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney poses with high school students who recently returned from the United States as part of the Youth Exchange and Study Program (YES). YES is a year-long program, funded by the U.S. Department of State, that aims to build relationships and strengthen understanding between Americans and people from countries with large Muslim populations. The students attended a 4th of July and Philippine-American Friendship celebration held at the U.S. Embassy in Manila.
