Filipino and American Students and Teachers in U.S. Government Scholarship Programs are Honored at U.S. Embassy Reception

The U.S. Embassy hosted a May 17 reception to honor both Filipino and American participants in the Fulbright Scholars and Humphrey Fellowship programs, both U.S. Government-funded study programs that are administered in the Philippines by the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF). Pictured above is Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney with three Filipino students participating in the Fulbright-Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) program for the 2007-08 academic year. Their scholarships are sending them to the United States to teach Tagalog at American universities for one year.
Fulbright grants are also given to American graduate students for research and study in the Philippines. Eligible fields include Philippine studies, language and literature, history, politics, government, education, culture, arts and humanities, economics, and environmental studies. Twelve American students and professors came to the Philippines during academic year 2006-07 thanks to the Fulbright program; pic tured above is Ambassador Kenney with four American Fulbright Scholars.
The Fulbright program comprises five scholarship categories for Filipino students and teachers to study in the United States. Pictured above with Ambassador Kenney are Filipino students who will pursue a masters' or doctoral degree in the United States this year.
Pictured above with Ambassador Kenney are Filipino professors embarking on a graduate studies scholarship in the United States through the U.S. Government's Fulbright Scholars program. The U.S. Embassy and Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF) held a May 17 reception to congratulate the 14 Philippine students and teachers who are departing this summer for their studies in the United States, and to honor the 12 American teachers and students who are Fulbright Scholars in the Philippines.
The Fulbright - Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Scholarship Program for the Mindanao Advanced Education Project (MAEP) works to increase educational exchange opportunities for scholars and institutions from Mindanao. Scholarships are given to qualified faculty from universities belonging to MAEP institutions. The faculty pictured above with Ambassador Kenney won scholarships for the 2007-08 academic year.
Pictured above with Ambassador Kenney are the awardees in this year's Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, established in honor of the late U.S. Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey. This program sends outstanding mid-career Filipino professionals in public service from both the public and private sectors to the United States for a year of university study and work-related practical experience.
Guests enjoyed themselves at a May 17 reception to honor Filipino and American participants in the Fulbright Scholars and Humphrey Fellowship programs, both U.S. Government-funded study programs. The reception was sponsored by the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF), which serves as the bilateral organization responsible for the administration of Fulbright Scholar exchanges between the Philippines and the United States, and the Hubert H. Humphrey fellowships.
The May 17 reception was held in the U.S. Embassy's Charles Parsons Ballroom to congratulate the 14 Philippine students and teachers who are departing this summer for their studies in the United States under the U.S. Government-funded Fulbright Scholars and Humphrey Fellowship programs, and to honor the 12 American teachers and students who are Fulbright Scholars in the Philippines.
