Ambassador Kenney Visits U.S. Environment and Agricultural Projects in Albay and Sorsogon Provinces

U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney swims with a whale shark in the waters around Donsol in Sorsogon Province, famed worldwide as a major feeding grounds for these animals. Funds from the U.S. Agency for International Development, United Nations Development Program, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-Philippines have helped the local community in Donsol establish a successful whale shark conservation and tourism program. The American people have provided approximately $18 million since 2002 to support the development of the diary industry in the Philippines.
U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney, Camarines Sur Governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte, Jr., and Land O' Lakes Philippines Country Managers Qazi Yawar Naeem and Matthew F. Funds from the American people help the U.S agricultural firm provide a daily nutritious snack and milk to thousands of schoolchildren each day in the Province.
Members of the Barangay Sibago Mangrove Management Council wave to visitors. U.S. development funds help the World Wildlife Foundation, in partnership with local government, to provide support to the Council for ecologically friendly raising and harvesting of mudcrabs in the mangrove areas.
