U.S. Ambassador Visits Children's Charity Helped by U.S. Embassy Volunteer Group

Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney laughs with children at Friendship Home, a U.S. Embassy-supported nonprofit charitable institution that provides services to low-income children, during her November 21 visit to the center. Friendship Home offers 100 children from a low-income district in Malate, Manila a safe and orderly environment in which they do schoolwork; receive supplementary instruction in English, music and art; and play together.
During her visit to Friendship Home, Ambassador Kenney donated books and supplies to Brother Luis Ortiz, Director of Friendship Home, for the center's library. Friendship Home is one of eight metro Manila-area charities supported by the U.S. Embassy Club (USEC), a volunteer group composed of U.S. Embassy employees and family members. USEC supports Friendship Home by providing funds for school-related expenses and purchasing groceries.
Ambassador Kenney helps children at Friendship Home with their homework. The nonprofit charitable institution in Malate offers children from low-income families nutritious meals, access to computers, and help with schoolwork. About 18 teenage boys reside permanently at the Friendship Home; the other children live with their families. A volunteer group of U.S. Embassy employees and family members supports the Friendship Home with donations and visits.
During a visit to Friendship Home, a charitable institution that provides services to low-income children, Ambassador Kenney read the story Inang Bayan's New Clothes: Mga Bag-ong Sinina ni Inahang Nasod, a story about children working together to help others. The book's tale encourages children to look past differences and find common ground. Friendship Home is one of eight metro Manila-area charities supported by the U.S. Embassy Club (USEC), a volunteer group composed of U.S. Embassy employees and family members. USEC supports Friendship Home by providing funds for school-related expenses and purchasing groceries.
