American architect’s
influence on RP city planning

at the opening of “City Beautiful? : The Burnham Plan for
Manila’s Urban Development” at the Metro Manila Museum
of Manila on Roxas Boulevard on July 3. The exhibit, which will
run until September 26, highlights maps, plans, pictures, artifacts
and models of American Architect Daniel H. Burnham’s plan
for Manila, Baguio and other cities in the Philippines. Also in

Architect Paolo Alcazaren, curator of the exhibit,
briefs Ambassador Ricciardone (left) and Manila Mayor Atienza
on the logo of the exhibit. The exhibit, which highlights the
legacy of the American era through the influence of American architects
on city planning and buildings in the Philippines, is one of the
U.S. Embassy’s major contributions to “Sangangdaan
2003,” a month-long cultural commemoration of a century
of RP-U.S. relations.
