U.S. Ambassador Launches Children's Book with Reading Program at Museo Pambata ng Maynila

U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney officially launched the children's storybook Inang Bayan's New Clothes: Mga Bag-ong Sinina ni Inahang Nasod, a story about children working together to help others, during a book reading program on November 7 at the Museo Pambata ng Maynila (Manila Children's Museum).
The book Inang Bayan's New Clothes: Mga Bag-ong Sinina ni Inahang Nasod, which U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney read to elementary school students during a book reading program at the Museo Pambata ng Maynila, encourages children to look past differences and find common ground. "Helping foster ethnic and religious tolerance by reaching children with a positive message is something in which I'm proud to be involved," said Ambassador Kenney, pictured here talking with children from A. Mabini Elementary School in Quiapo.
An audience of 40 children from the A. Mabini Elementary School in Quiapo listened to Ambassador Kenney read the story Inang Bayan's New Clothes: Mga Bag-ong Sinina ni Inahang Nasod, which tells the tale of two Filipino girls from different religious and ethnic backgrounds who are best friends and partners in a sewing business. They work together to make a new wardrobe for a poverty-stricken woman named Inang Bayan. The two girls soon realize that it is their shared experience as Filipinos that will make their clothing design project successful. The Museo Pambata ng Maynila co-sponsored the book reading program.
During the November 7 book reading program arranged by Museo Pambata, elementary school children listened to U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney read the story of Inang Bayan's New Clothes: Mga Bag-ong Sinina ni Inahang Nasod, an interactive book featuring apparel and accessories from several Philippine ethnic groups. The students then watched as a team from Philippine Normal University - arranged by the Cultural Center of the Philippines - demonstrated traditional Philippine clothing styles from various indigenous groups (pictured above).
U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney helps a group of children cut out paper dolls of the characters in the story Inang Bayan's New Clothes: Mga Bag-ong Sinina ni Inahang Nasod. Written in English and Visayan by written by award-winning playwright and fictionist Tony Perez and scriptwriter and lyricist Agnes S. Caballa, who both also work at the U.S. Embassy, Inang Bayan's New Clothes: Mga Bag-ong Sinina ni Inahang Nasod features apparel and accessories from several Philippine ethnic groups. This interactive book features colorful and vibrant illustrations by popular Filipina illustrator Frances Alcaraz. In the activity pages, children can dress cut-out paper dolls with traditional outfits from the Philippines and around the world.
U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney helps children from A. Mabini Elementary School work on activity projects related to the book Inang Bayan's New Clothes: Mga Bag-ong Sinina ni Inahang Nasod, which she read during a book reading gprogram at the Museo Pambata ng Maynila. The book is being distributed to Filipino schools and barangays through a program of the U.S. Government, whose contributions made the printing and production of this book possible. The book was published by Anvil Publishing Inc.
