Development and Humanitarian Programs Will Continue: U.S. Ambassador Kenney Visits Sulu

Residents of Bwansa, a neighborhood in Indanan on Sulu Island, register for free medical care at a September 25 Medical Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) co-sponsored by the U.S. and Philippine militaries. U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney attended the MEDCAP during her visit to Sulu Island, along with Sulu Provincial Governor Benjamin T. Loong, local officials, and NGO staff, demonstrating how communities can benefit from partnerships between government, military, and private organizations.
Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney met Indanan, Sulu community members who were getting free medical care at a Medical Civic Action Program (MEDCAP) co-sponsored by the U.S. and Philippine militaries. Assuring them of continued dedication by the American people to assist in bringing peace and prosperity to their families, communities, and the region, Ambassador Kenney talked with mothers, teachers, and medical professionals about the programs they would like to see in their community.
Highlighting the dedication of the U.S. and Philippine Governments to development and humanitarian projects in Mindanao, Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney visited Sulu Island in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao on September 25. While there, she saw many success stories of the myriad Philippine-U.S. military humanitarian projects held each year.
Thanks to assistance from the American people, 14 development projects are beginning in September and October in western Sulu Island. Among the first projects to be completed are a community center in Panamao and a new well that brings clean drinking water to area residents. These U.S.-funded projects, created through partnership between the U.S. and Philippine militaries, immediately benefit Sulu residents.
