America Celebrates the Fourth of July and Philippine-American Friendship with Fireworks, Music at the U.S. Embassy

Guests at the U.S. Embassy's Fourth of July celebration enjoyed a fantastic fireworks show over Manila Bay. Nearly 1,000 friends, colleagues and well-wishers joined in the annual celebration, which featured music from internationally recognized Filipino jazz artist Mon David and his band.
U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney and Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alberto G. Romulo make a toast to Philippine-American friendship during the U.S. Embassy's Independence Day celebration. July 4, 2006, was also the 60th anniversary of Philippine-American Friendship Day. Earlier that day, Ambassador Kenney and Secretary Romulo kicked off a year of events honoring the 60th anniversary of Philippine-American Friendship Day with the unveiling of a photo exhibit at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

On July 3, Ambassdor Kenney inaugurated a Philippine-American Friendship Garden with Secretary Romulo on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy that "reflects the living and growing relationship that we have," she said.

Earlier that day, Ambassador Kenney and Secretary Romulo unveiled a photo exhibit at the Department of Foreign Affairs that revisits 60 years of Philippine-American friendship using photographs amassed from several private and public collections. "I am personally honored to recognize the deep partnership between the United States and the Philippines on July 4, the most cherished of days in American history," said Ambassador Kenney.
Ambassador Kenney with George Drysdale, Sr., Chairman Emeritus of the Marsman-Drysdale Group, which was one of several firms whose donations helped make this year's celebration possible. Nearly 1,000 friends, colleagues and well-wishers joined in the annual celebration of America's Independence Day, held July 4 each year.

Guests enjoying the festivities at the U.S. Embassy's Fourth of July party included Col. Matt Velasco, Chief of the U.S. Embassy's Joint U.S. Military Assistance Group (JUSMAG); Ami Pamintuan, Executive Editor, The Philippine Star; Joanne Rae Ramirez, Editor-in-Chief, People Asia; and Lt. Gen. Esperon, Philippine Army.
