U.S. Ambassador, Secretary Romulo Dedicate Garden at U.S. Embassy in Honor of Philippine-American Friendship

U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney and Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Bert Romulo dedicate a Philippine-American Friendship Garden on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy on Roxas Boulevard, Manila. The garden was planted in honor of the 60th anniversary of Philippine-American Friendship Day on July 4, 2006.
The plaque installed by the U.S. Embassy on the newly created Philippine-American Friendship Garden on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy. "I wanted to inaugurate something here at the embassy that will last forever," says Ambassador Kenney. "The plants are all Philippine and American plants, and they are the colors of our flags - red, white, blue and gold. This garden reflects the living and growing relationship that we have, and it reminds us that our world is a real community of nations."
Ambassador Kenney and Secretary Romulo look at the plaque and garden after a ceremony at the U.S. Embassy dedicating part of the U.S. Embassy grounds as a Philippine-American Friendship Garden. "Here on the grounds of the U.S. Embassy we can look out at one of the most memorable pieces of Manila scenery: the beautiful bay, and across to Corregidor and Bataan where our forefathers fought together to keep our peace and freedom strong," says Ambassador Kenney.
Ambassador Kenney and Secretary Romulo pose in front of the Philippine-American Friendship Garden at the U.S. Embassy. "This is the start of a year-long celebration of the 60th anniversary of U.S.-Philippine diplomatic relations and a manifestation of our warm friendship and partnership," says Secretary Romulo. To honor 60 years of Philippine-American friendship, the U.S. Embassy and the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs are holding events throughout the year. The official celebration begins on July 4 with the unveiling of a photo exhibit in the lobby of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
