Ambassador Kenney Visits Central Luzon to Tour American Businesses and View U.S.-Sponsored Programs

Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney toured the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) Reception and Study Center for Children in Lubao during a June 15-16 trip to Central Luzon. This center is a regional facility for abandoned, abused, and orphaned children, and boasts on its staff a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer who assists in teacher training, special needs development, English language training, and outreach programs.
Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney and a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer who works at the Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC) in Lubao visit the infant room of the center, which takes care of 120 abandoned, abused, and orphaned children.
During her June 15-16 trip to Central Luzon, Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney visited the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and toured the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, where she saw the full range of U.S. business and economic partnerships in the area. Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin and Ambassador Kenney visited the Angeles City Reproductive Health and Wellness Center, whose innovative HIV/AIDS survey, education and outreach programs are supported by the U.S. Government. Ambassador Kenney's visit to the area focused on touring the many partnerships and initiatives the U.S. Government works on there, in areas as widely varied as trade and investment, and health and family services.
Ambassador Kristie Kenney learns about the Angeles City Reproductive Health and Wellness Center from Dr. Teresita Esguerra of the Reproductive Health and Wellness Center (RHWC) and co-chair of the local AIDS Council. With USAID support, the local government has undertaken initiatives for long-term implementation of HIV/AIDS surveillance and education activities.

Kenney toured the Clark Special Economic Zone and visited U.S. firm AOL Member Services, Inc., which has more than 1,000 local employees. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney and her husband, U.S. Ambassador Bill Brownfield (far left), paid their respects at the Clark Air Force Base Cemetery during a June 15-16 trip to Central Luzon. Also pictured are veterans from VFW Post 2485, which overseas the cemetery. This cemetery is the final resting place for more than 2,000 fallen American soldiers.
