U.S. Brings Advanced Prison Management Seminar to Filipino Law Enforcement

Filipino law enforcement specialists completing the week-long "Advanced Prison Management" course sponsored by the U.S. Government receive graduation certificates from Marius Corpus, Undersecretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government; U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Paul W. Jones; and course instructor Charles Ryan from the U.S. Department of Justice. The course's objectives were to provide Philippine corrections personnel with a broader knowledge of jail management, more effective ways of handling security threats, and a greater proficiency in handling jail incidents and organizing an emergency response team.
U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Paul W. Jones gave remarks at the program's closing ceremony. The sessions in "Advanced Prison Management" were led by two expert instructors from the U.S. Department of Justice's International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP).
More than 50 Philippine law enforcement specialists completed the week-long prison management seminar sponsored by the U.S. Government in April. The seminar participants were drawn from several Philippine government agencies, including the Bureau of Jails and Penology Management, the Philippine National Police, and Department of Social Welfare and Development.
U.S. Department of Justice course instructor Michael Cooksey receives a certificate of appreciation from the students, represented by Serafin Barretto, Jail Senior Superintendent, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. The "Advanced Prison Management" course was sponsored by the U.S. Government's International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP), which provides training and expertise to requesting governments and their criminal justice systems by providing law enforcement development assistance that is based on internationally recognized principles of human rights, the rule of law, and modern police practices.
