Ambassador Kenney Honors Terrorism Victims, Inaugurates Development Projects in Jolo

U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney and Sulu Provincial Governor Benjamin T. Loong pay their respects to the dead and injured at the site of the March 27 terrorist bombing in Jolo City. Nine citizens of the city were killed and 20 wounded in the terror attack on the Sulu Consumers Cooperative building. Ambassador Kenney visited the site during her visit to Sulu on April 26, where she also inaugurated a U.S.-renovated port facility and broke ground for a new community center, both in the village of Maimbung.
Ambassador Kenney and a student at Maimbung National High School on the island of Sulu access the Internet with computers and software provided by the United States Agency for International Development. The U.S. has connected 10 Sulu schools to the Internet through this innovative program. Ambassador Kenney visited Maimbung and Jolo City on the island on April 26.

The U.S. has connected 10 Sulu schools to the Internet, with plans to add several more in the near future.

Sulu Provincial Governor Benjamin T. Loong, Maimbung Mayor Hadji Najib A. Maldisa, and U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney attend a briefing on a new port facility in the village of Maimbung on the island of Sulu. The new port facility was constructed with U.S. assistance, and formally opened on April 26. The port will make transporting agricultural and marine products in the area cheaper and easier for residents of the region.
Joint Special Operations Task Force - Philippines Commander Colonel James Linder, U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney, Sulu Provincial Governor Benjamin T. Loong, and Maimbung Mayor Hadji Najib A. Maldisa break ground on a new community center building for Maimbung. The community center will be developed with support from the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the U.S. military, and will provide a forum for village residents for trade, social events and education.
