Ambassador Kenney Visits Zamboanga, Basilan to Cement U.S. Assistance in Building 3 Bridges Basilan Governor Wahab Muhtamad Akbar and Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney cut a ribbon to formally inaugurate a bridge on the island of Basilan. The bridge was constructed with U.S. assistance, and will make travel for citizens in the southern region of the island safer and more economical. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney flies over the island of Basilan in southern Mindanao. The island has been the site of numerous Philippine-American military humanitarian assistance projects, and a major focus for U.S. development assistance. Ambassador Kenney stressed that U.S. development assistance is helping build a better future for the children of the island, which was once one of the most strife-torn and dangerous areas of southern Mindanao.
