Ambassador Kenney meets Mindanao youths participating in ACCESS program Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney talks with participants in the U.S. Embassy-sponsored ACCESS program, which sends 30 students and young adults from conflict-affected areas in Mindanao to Northern Illinois University for a month-long program about inter-ethnic dialogue and conflict resolution. The ACCESS program is co-sponsored by Capitol University of Cagayan de Oro and IVP-PHILS, the Philippine association of alumni of the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Program. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney with the Muslim, Christian, and Lumad participants in the U.S. Embassy-sponsored ACCESS program. The participants visited the U.S. Embassy recently for visa interviews, lunch, and a briefing on student life in America from American diplomats and the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF). Volunteer Board members from IVP-PHILS, the Philippine association of alumni of the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Program, also attended. Students in the U.S. Embassy-sponsored ACCESS program listen to a briefing from the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF) about student life in America. During the month-long program, the students will not only study at Northern Illinois University but also take field trips to neighboring U.S. cities to learn about American civic society, diversity, and traditions of volunteerism. A student asks a question about what she can expect during her participation in the month-long ACCESS program, which sends students and young adults from conflict-affected areas in Mindanao to Northern Illinois University for a four-week program on inter-ethnic dialogue and conflict resolution. The participants, selected for their demonstrated leadership and community service activities, will stay with American host families during part of the program, and interact with American high school and college students.
