Ambassador Kenney Meets President Arroyo, Presents Credentials Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney (left) presented her credentials to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on March 22. Her diplomatic "Letters of Credence and Recall" were accepted by President Arroyo during a ceremony held at Malacanang Palace. Philippines Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alberto Romulo (center) was also present. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney arrives at Malacanang Palace and is invited by the Commander of the Honor Guard to review his troops. Attending the palace ceremony from the U.S. Embassy were Deputy Chief of Mission Paul W. Jones; USAID-Philippines Director Jon Lindborg; Colonel Mathias Velasco, Chief, Joint U.S. Military Assistance Group; Jonathan Skelly, Director, Department of Veterans Affairs; and a representative of the U.S. Embassy Filipino Employees' Association. Ambassador Marciano Paynor, Jr., the Chief of Presidential Protocol, assists Ambassador Kenney in signing the Presidential Registry Book upon her arrival at Malacanang Palace. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Ambassador Kenney pose for an official photograph to commemorate the presentation of credentials ceremony, and Ambassador Kenney's assumption of her duties as President Bush's personal representative in the Philippines and head of the U.S. Embassy in Manila. At Rizal Park, Ambassador Kenney is escorted by Philippine Naval Captain Miguel Jose Rodriguez and two Marines to lay a wreath at the Jose Rizal Monument out of respect for the Philippines' great national hero. At the Jose Rizal Monument, Ambassador Kenney reflects on the history of the Philippines and the contributions of Jose Rizal. As Ambassador Kenney said upon arrival in the Philippines, "This is one of the most special countries for the United States. We have such a long relationship and we feel close as people."
