Philippine Policemen complete USAID-Sponsored Seminar-Workshop on Trafficking in Persons Five women members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who completed a two-day training seminar on trafficking in persons proudly show their certificates for completing the course at the graduation ceremony held in Camp Crame, Quezon City, on November 8. Some 60 men and women PNP members who work closely with trafficking victims participated in the seminar, which was sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and aimed at strengthening the country’s ability to prosecute and convict human traffickers. U.S. Embassy Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Scott Bellard (right) and Interior and Local Government Undersecretary for Administration Melchor Rosales (second, right) congratulate a participant at the closing ceremony of the November 7-8 seminar workshop on trafficking in persons. In their remarks, Undersecretary Rosales emphasized the crucial role of the police in the fight against human trafficking, and Acting DCM Bellard stressed the need to focus efforts on prosecuting and convicting traffickers. Philippine National Police members who participated in the USAID-sponsored seminar workshop pose for picture a at the end of the two-day course. The training covered the provisions of the Philippine anti-trafficking in persons law, methods of detecting trafficking cases, conducting surveillance, and developing complaints for filing before the Department of Justice.
