Both the U.S. and the Philippines honor the eagle as a national symbol, said the Chargé in his remarks at the Ateneo de Davao University, and both believe that the fate of the endangered bird, the health of the environment and the quality of a nation’s life are “inextricably linked.” (Clockwise from right:) The Chargé visits the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao; tours an Ateneo de Davao building that was constructed with USAID assistance, and delivers his remarks at the inauguration of the Energy and Clean Air project’s Davao area office in the university.

“The U.S. government is honored to have supported activities to conserve the Philippine environment for two decades now,” Chargé Mussomeli remarked during the signing of the USAID-DENR-DILG memorandum of agreement on USAID’s environment programs in Mindanao and EcoGov Project Phase 2. “Over the years we have shifted our emphasis towards helping local governments and communities become more active managers of their environment.” He noted that the EcoGov2 project forms the “largest part” of the nearly $8 million annual budget for environment projects in the Philippines.
