U.S., RP holds civic action program in Batangas

U.S.-RP civic action mission. Joint U.S. Military Advisory Group (JUSMAG) representative SPC Melissa Ramirez (left) looks on as a young resident of Taysan, Batangas, is treated by a Armed Forces of the Philippines (PAF) dentist during a joint U.S.-Philippine military civic action mission to the province on October 9. The mission, composed of the AFP Southern Command’s 4th Special Forces Battalion and the Civic Action Team from the U.S. Embassy JUSMAG, examined and treated more than 1,200 medical and dental cases in Taysan.

Cpt. Andrew McConnel of JUSMAG (top photo: second, right) presents to barangay officials boxes of medicines, while Philippine soldiers assist SGT Fred Duebbers (lower photo: center) of JUSMAG unload more boxes. P230,000 worth of medicines donated by JUSMAG were distributed to the community during the October 9 civic action mission, and JUSMAG turned over a separate batch of medicines worth P55,000 to the Batangas Medical Association the next day. The local medical society as well as medical personnel from the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Air Force participated in the mission.

Members of the Philippine military medical team prepare the dental area early in the day (top photo), and treated more than 400 residents by the end of the day.

Hundreds of residents of all ages gather at the mission site early in the morning to register for medical and dental consultation and treatment.

Physicians from the Batangas Medical Association (top photo) and from the Philippine Army examine Tanay residents and prescribe them medicine. The mission examined and treated more than 800 medical cases.

Members of the JUSMAG and Philippine military teams unpack and sort out medicines in the community chapel for distribution to the residents. P230,000 worth of medicines were given to the barangays during the mission.

Many mothers, on family way or with children in tow, join the line to receive the medicine distributed by members of the U.S.-RP joint civic mission.
