MANILA, July 16, 2012 –  Ambassador Luis  CdeBaca of the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons in the U.S. Department of State, visited Manila on July 16th to continue consultations with Philippine government officials and civil society representatives on issues related to human trafficking and to urge continued work together on this heinous crime.

Following productive discussions at the Bilateral Strategic Dialogue in Washington, D.C., earlier this year, the Philippines and the United States have increased engagement and cooperation to prosecute traffickers, protect their victims, and educate those at risk of being trafficked.

Ambassador CdeBaca said, “The Philippines is making a strong effort in the fight against human trafficking.  In 2011, it was upgraded to Tier II in the U.S. State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Report.  We are proud to be a partner with the Philippines to support the many efforts underway by government and civil society actors to combat modern day slavery.”
