The U.S. Embassy hosted its 3rd Annual U.S. Independence Day Charity Golf Tournament at the Canlubang Golf and Country Club in Laguna on July 4.

The tournament, organized by the U.S. Embassy, was started in order to raise funds for charity as well as to celebrate U.S. Independence Day and Philippine-American Day Friendship Day, both of which take place on July 4th.

This year's event, supported by leading Philippine companies and individuals, raised more than P1.2 million for deserving local charities.

U.S. Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr., Japanese Ambassador Toschinao Urabe, U.S. Ambassador to the Asian Development Bank Robert Orr, and Philippine National Police General Lina Sarmiento braved rainy weather to host the tournament.

Jeffrey Scearce, U.S. Embassy Golf Club president, said the charity game had 37 hole sponsors and numerous “contributing sponsors who made a huge contribution to the success of the tournament.”   “We were thrilled to see more than 200 players come out to support the event,” he added.

Major corporate sponsors were ARMSCOR; Cebu Pacific Air; Coca-Cola; Delta Airlines; Globe Telecom; Makati Development Corporation; Pacsports Philippines; Perry’s Group Logistical Companies; PLDT-Alpha, Qatar Airways, San Miguel Corporation, and Sta. Elena Golf & Country Club.
